Two-Day Willow Basketry Course: Crafting a Round Shopping Basket with Wrapped Handle – 13th and 14th March 9.30 til 4.30. Froghall Wharf, Staffordshire. 
Join us for a two-day willow basketry workshop where you’ll create a sturdy, practical round shopping basket, complete with a beautifully wrapped handle, using vibrant, home-grown colourful willows. This course is designed for both beginners and improvers, offering the perfect opportunity to develop your skills while creating a functional, stylish piece that you can use every day.
Over the two days, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the basket-making process:
Base Construction: Learn the fundamental techniques for weaving a strong, round base, which forms the foundation of your basket.
Stake-Up: Discover how to set up your basket’s frame by selecting the right stakes and preparing them for weaving.
Main Body Weaving: Master basic and intermediate weaving techniques to build the body of your basket, learning how to maintain even tension and create a smooth, professional finish.
Wrapped Handle: Focus on adding a sturdy, attractive wrapped handle, ensuring it is both comfortable and secure for carrying.
Creative Exploration for Improvers: If you’re an improver, you’ll have the opportunity to experiment with different weaving techniques and explore variations in design, from different border styles to adding colour patterns and texture.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll be working with colourful home-grown willows, which offer a beautiful range of natural hues, giving your basket a unique, vibrant finish. This course is perfect for those looking to learn the basics of willow weaving, as well as those who want to expand their skillset and experiment with new techniques.
All tools and materials are provided, and I’ll be on hand to provide guidance and tips tailored to your experience level. Tea, coffee, and delicious biscuits will be available throughout the course to keep you refreshed.
